AI Systems & Workcraft for Entrepreneurs | LachlanCB

Two separate questions kept separate: what state the work happens in, and which direction the hours point.

My default work state was fight-or-flight for a long time — the desk becomes a conditioned cue for urgency, urgency produces shallow thinking, shallow thinking produces more urgency. The fix wasn't more discipline. It was protecting the transitions either side of a session rather than trying to manage state during it. On the career side there's one standing constraint on any commercial direction: it has to be compatible with location independence. When the weekly question and the twelve-month question collapse into each other, neither gets answered well — so they're held apart on purpose.

Three-phase Sessions

Protect the entry and the exit. The state during the work is mostly determined before it starts.

Pre-work
5–10 min, before the laptop opens
Entry
One written intention, before any application
Off-ramp
10 min physical change, no reflection
Most-skipped
The off-ramp — and it shows
Career filter
Location independence, applied to every lane

Pre-work, five to ten minutes: sensory downshift and slow breathing before the laptop opens, not after. The sequencing is the entire point — once the machine is open the environment has already triggered the conditioned response, and breathwork at that stage is corrective rather than preventive. Doing the right thing in the wrong order gets most of the way to not doing it.

Entry, two to three minutes: a single written intention before opening any application. It anchors the state you just built to a specific task before the first notification can displace it. Without it the pre-work ritual dissipates in about ninety seconds and you're left with a calmer version of the same scattered session.

The off-ramp is ten minutes of physical state change at the end — walking, or lying down, with no journalling and no reflection, because reflection is still cognitive work and prevents the nervous system registering that the session ended. This is the phase I skip most, and its absence is exactly why sessions echo into evenings. Knowing that hasn't yet been enough to fix it consistently.

The career layer sits deliberately apart: which commercial vehicles are live, what's being researched, and what the twelve-month direction is. Right now that's agency delivery, specialist consulting, and remote employment as an income bridge — with location independence as the filter applied to all three. What I actually sell is a separate page; this is only the frame that decides which lane gets the hours.

You can't manage state during the work. You can only decide what state it starts in.

The offers themselves — what I actually do for clients — are on the services page.
