Why most salespeople lose on objections
The instinct when you hear an objection is to counter it. Someone says "it's too expensive" and the reflex is to justify the price, offer a discount, or list features. Every one of those moves signals that you weren't listening — you were waiting for your turn to speak. And nothing signals a weak sales position faster than desperation to win the price argument.
Objections are information, not attacks. "Too expensive" means the value isn't clear yet. "Not the right time" means there's a real or imagined risk they haven't said out loud. "I need to think about it" means something specific is unresolved and they don't feel safe naming it. Your job is to find out which one it is — not to bulldoze past it.
The Acknowledge → Reframe → Question framework works because it slows the conversation down instead of escalating it. You validate, shift the frame, then hand control back with a question that opens a door rather than closing one. The goal isn't to "overcome" objections — it's to understand them well enough that they resolve themselves.
