What makes a cold email get replies

A cold email that gets replies is one that opens with a specific trigger about the recipient, states one concrete outcome, and ends with a single low-friction ask. Almost every ignored cold email breaks at least one of those three.

The most common failure is the opener. "Hi, I hope this email finds you well" tells the reader nothing and signals a template. Lead instead with something only true for them — a hire they just made, a launch, a post they wrote — then connect it to what you do.

The second failure is the ask. Long emails that never actually ask for anything get archived. End with one question a busy person can answer in two lines.
