AI Systems for Agency Owners | LachlanCB

A design constraint applied now. Not a philanthropic afterthought for a later phase of life.

Legacy is the longest horizon on the map. What outlasts the current project, and what is worth building with that in mind. It runs on an annual audit rather than a weekly cadence, because a year is the right resolution for this one.

For me, retirement isn't a terminal event. It's the permanent ability to choose your own problems. Legacy runs in parallel with commercial work rather than after it. The honest position is that the protocol is better developed than the habit. It is documented in detail and run less reliably than it is written. I would rather say that than present an intention as a system.

The Annual Audit

Once a year, measured against five dimensions. The useful part is the question it forces. The scorecard isn't it.

Cadence
Annual
Measured on
Wisdom · relief · durability · relationships · continuity
Output
An updated private letter, not a rewritten one.
Giving
Structural and recurring over reactive
Honest status
Documented better than it's executed

Five dimensions get measured. Who is wiser because of you. Where measurable relief was actually caused. What will still be useful in ten years. Who will remember you well. And what continues without you. The audit produces an update to a private letter holding current beliefs, stated intent and wishes. The letter is updated each year rather than rewritten. That means it accumulates a record of how the frame has moved. The accumulation is the point. It is far more interesting to read back than anything in it was to write.

The genuinely useful function isn't the letter. It is being forced once a year to ask a question commercial work never asks. Of everything currently being built, what is designed to outlast your direct involvement? Most of it isn't, and that is fine. But it should be a decision rather than a default. Once a year is the right frequency, which is often enough to notice the difference.

The giving side is kept structural rather than reactive. That means recurring commitments and compounding structures instead of one-off responses to individual appeals. This is the least consistently executed part of the whole area. The intent is genuinely clear and the cadence isn't yet reliable. That is the accurate description rather than a satisfying one.

Once a year, ask this. What's designed to outlast you? Most of it isn't. Make that a choice.
